Owls boss set to stay

Sheffield Wednesday look set to extend the stay of manager Carlos Carvalhal for a third season, according to local reports.

The Portuguese manager held talks with club owner Dejphon Chansiri on Monday and although the Owls are yet to make any formal announcement, Sheffield daily newspaper The Star are reporting that the discussions have resulted in a positive deal.

Carvalhal led the Owls to 6th place and the play-off final in his first season and although they were beaten in the play-off semi-finals in his second season the league position improved to 4th and the season points tally increased by 7.

The 51-year-old is a popular figure at Hillsborough but has had his critics this season who have pointed towards an over-cautious brand of football that has not made the most of the attacking assets at his disposal.

Should these reports prove to be true this will easily become Carvalhal’s longest stint in charge at one club as in his near 20-year managerial career to date he has never gone into a third season in succession at the helm.
