Loovens to leave at the end of the season

Sheffield Wednesday face Norwich City on the final day of the 2017-18 Championship season and it will be the last game with the Owls for Glenn Loovens.

The Dutch defender joined Wednesday as a free transfer in November 2013 and has proved to be a fantastic addition on and off the field in his four-and-a-half years at Hillsborough.

Loovens has been in and out of the side this season but if selected he would make his 150th appearance for the Owls on Sunday. During his time with Wednesday he has helped the team twice equal the clubs clean-sheet record for a season with 17 league shuts outs and has been an integral part of the team that reached the play-offs in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

As well as leading by example on the pitch the 34-year-old has carried out his duties as club captain off the field with pride and has won several community awards. His qualities will be difficult to replace and regardless of whether he features in the team on Sunday the Owls faithful are should to give him a great send off.
