As has been anticipated for some time, Sheffield Wednesday's first new signing of the close season has been confirmed as James O'Connor.

The midfielder failed to agree terms on a new contract with Burnley at the end of last season and thus left the Turf Moor outfit as a free agent.

O'Connor is now set to sign a 3-year deal at Hillsborough.

At 28 years of age the all-action midfielder should be somewhere near the peak of his career and will add experience to the Owls midfielder, potentially lining up alongside youngster Sean McAllister.

O'Connor made of 100 league appearances for the Lancashire outfit and was an ever-present when fit combining solid passing ability with tenacity, commitment and drive.
