Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a tough draw in the first round of the 2011/12 League Cup. The Owls will take on Ian Holloway’s Blackpool at Hillsborough for a place in the 2nd round.
Having just been relegated from the Premier League, Blackpool are ranked as one of the strongest seeds taking part in the 1st round. The Seasiders endured a rollercoaster season in the top flight last term, playing an entertaining, attacking brand of football that almost saw them achieve Premier League safety against all odds as they only succumbed to relegation on the final day.
The two sides last met in during the 2009/10 season in the Championship where despite Wednesday’s season finishing in relegation and Blackpool’s in promotion, the Owls won both meetings between the teams, 2-1 at Bloomfield Road and 2-0 at Hillsborough.
The 1st round ties in the League Cup are due to take place in the week commencing 8th August.
