Bannan & Palmer called up

Sheffield Wednesday duo Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer have been rewarded for their form in 2019 with call-ups to Alex McLeish's Scotland squad for the upcoming international week.

Full-back Palmer has been a revelation since Steve Bruce took charge at Hillsborough and has been an regular in the Owls team of late, featuring in his usual position of right-back but also doing an excellent job when required to fill in at left-back following the recent injury to Achraf Lazaar. Wednesday's defensive record has improved no end since the turn of the year and Palmer has played his part in the upturn in form.

Bannan has been a consistent performer in the Owls midfield and since taking over at Hillsborough Steve Bruce has commented on the importance of getting Bannan on the ball to make the Owls tick. The playmaker provided the assist with a fine free-kick delivery for Dominic Iorfa to score Wednesday's leveler at the weekend and has provided plenty of goal scoring opportunities for his team mates this season.

One player to miss out is Steven Fletcher. The Wednesday striker has been among the Owls best performers all season long and was praised by Alex McLeish for his performances in the last round of international matches back in November. The 31-year-old has been far more involved in Wednesday's games since the Owls parted company with former manager Jos Luhukay in December and with the extra game-time and having also picked up a knock at Derby it is thought that his omission has been forced upon the Scotland manager.
