Owls duo on the way out as deadline approaches

Sheffield Wednesday have allowed two players to leave the club on loan as the winter transfer window deadline approaches.

With the deadline for transfers kicking in at 11pm tonight the Owls, who have one of the bigger squads in the Championship have been looking to move some of their fringe players on.

Yesterday young Portuguese striker Lucas Joao moved to Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers on loan until the end of the season with a view to the Lancashire club having the option to make the move permanent in the summer, though any long-term move would attract a fee with Joao under contract at Hillsborough until 2019.

Joao joined the Owls in the summer of 2015 and his raw talent was a hit with the fans as his early displays were encouraging. This season however he has struggled in front of goal and the recent arrival of Sam Winnall has seen him move further down the pecking order.

Today winger Modou Sougou has also made a loan move, joining Portuguese top flight side Moreirense until the end of the season. The 32-year-old moved to Hillsborough in 2015 but has rarely featured and with his contract coming to an end this summer he is unlikely to play for the Owls again.
