Owls enjoy local win

Sheffield Wednesday continued their pre-season schedule with a 2-1 win over Stocksbridge Park Steels on Wednesday evening.

The Owls were able to give a run out to several first team players who did not feature in the 2-0 win at Hartlepool on Tuesday with the likes of Sodje, Esajas, Johnson, Buxton, Beevers, McAllister and Boden all starting the match.

Wednesday took the lead thanks to a fine low long-range strike from youngster Nathan Modest shortly after the half-hour mark.

Stockbridge equalised early in the second half before talismanic front man Akpo Sodje bagged his first goal of the pre-season with a looping header and the Owls spurned a number of late opportunities to increase the margin of victory.

Wednesday will be expected to pick from the strongest available squad members when Hull City visit Hillsborough this coming Saturday.
