Sheffield Wednesday were unable to secure a left-back on transfer deadline day last week but have moved quickly to increase their options by signing Dutch defender Urby Emanuelson on a free-transfer. Having signed Daniel Pudil in the summer the Owls were wanting to add a further option to the Czech international in that position and have now managed to do so.

The 30-year-old has a fine pedigree, listing Ajax, AC Milan and Roma among his former club. He also has experience of playing in England having spent half a season on loan at Fulham in the Premier League. Emanuelson was released by Italian club Verona this summer.

Emanuelson has been capped 16 times by Holland and can operate as a left-back, wing-back or a wide midfielder. He will be available for selection when the Owls face Wigan at Hillsborough on Saturday.
