Northern Ireland international Brunt was instrumental for The Owls last season and has many Premiership suitors including Manchester City, Reading and Wigan.

But Fulham, and Brunt's former Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez, were today knocked back after making an official, yet undisclosed bid for the midfielder.

The club have been desperate to speak to Brunt in regards to keeping him at Hillsborough after his heroics last season and the player himself has stated he does not want to leave Hillsborough unless he is not wanted.

After the season, Brunt exclusively told Footymad: "Obviously papers talk but speculation about player's futures is recognition of how well we are playing, and credit to our team if other clubs are looking at our players. It's flattering to be linked with other teams but I am contract to Sheffield Wednesday and will stay here until I am told otherwise."
