Owls in search of a return to form at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday face struggling Charlton Athletic at Hillsborough on Saturday as they look for a return to winning ways on home soil in order to maintain their place in the play-offs.

Coach Carlos Carvalhal will have an almost fully fit squad to choose from if Sam Hutchinson manages to recover from recent illness but the Owls will be without influential midfielder Barry Bannan as the Scotland international starts a 3-match ban following his dismissal at Nottingham Forest.

Hutchinson, Alex Lopez and Lewis McGugan all come into consideration to replace Bannan and Marco Matias will be hoping that his goal-scoring appearance from the substitutes bench last time out will give him a chance of making the starting 11.

Experienced Charlton legend Johnnie Jackson has returned to training following an injury lay-off but may not be risked from the start after a month on the sidelines.

Striker Igor Vetokele is unlikely to feature due to a groin injury and fellow frontman – on loan Arsenal striker – Yaya Sanogo misses out as he serves the 2nd game of a 3-match suspension.

Wednesday ended a run of 5 games without a win with a convincing 3-0 victory at Nottingham Forest last weekend. The Owls have only been beaten twice on home soil this season but have only won one of their last 4 at Hillsborough and lost to lowly Rotherham last time out at S6.

Charlton enjoyed a 2-0 home win over promotion chasing Middlesbrough last weekend but have only won 3 times in 18 away games in the Championship this season.

Wednesday were well beaten 3-1 when the 2 teams met at The Valley in November and the Londoners also have a decent recent record at Hillsborough having only suffered defeat once in their last 6 visits.
