Owls line up another pre-season South Yorkshire derby

Sheffield Wednesday have added another fixture to their pre-season campaign as they gear up for the 2010/11 season. The Owls will make the short trip to the Keepmoat Stadium to face local rivals Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 31st July with a 3pm kick-off, just a few days after visiting Barnsley for a mid-week friendly at Oakwell.

The match is set to be the Owls final warm up game with the league campaign set to start on the following weekend, league fixtures for the new season will be announced on June 17th and owls-mad will be keeping an eye on all the key dates as they are revealed.

There was speculation that the Owls were keeping this date free in the hope of lining up a home friendly against Premier League opposition. This had become something of a trend in recent seasons with the likes of Birmingham City, Middlesbrough, Wigan, Hull City and Blackburn Rovers all visiting Hillsborough but evidently this is not the case and the Owls now look set to play all of their warm-up games away from S6 this summer.

The match at Doncaster will potentially see new Owls recruit Paul Heffernan face his former team mates just a few weeks after leaving the Championship side to sign for Wednesday.
