Owls made to suffer by Derby yet again

Sheffield Wednesday's dire run of form against Derby County continued today as they went down to a 2-0 defeat at the iPro stadium. The loss stretches the run to 17 games since the Owls last beat the Rams.

The Owls dominated large parts of the game but failed to make the most of their spells of superiority and lost to a goal in each half, Christie scoring a header from a corner to open the scoring and Pearce doubling the advantage with 20 minutes to go.

A major talking point in the game came just after the 5 minute mark. Wednesday had already been denied by a smart save from Carson to deny Lee when it seemed that a strike from Adam Reach was destined to put the visitors in front. Reach's shot was stopped on the line by what appeared to be the hand of Rams defender Keogh but to the Owls astonishment no decision was given.

A host of chances came and went as Wednesday upped the pressure to find a leveller after the break but the second goal knocked the stuffing out of Carlos Carvalhal's side as they slipped to their first defeat in 4 games.

The result sees the Owls drop out of the top 6 in the Championship ahead of next weekends home game against Ipswich, after which comes another international break.
