Midfielder in, striker out

Sheffield Wednesday concluded transfer deadline day with a deal that sees Jacob Butterfield move to Hillsborough from Derby County with Sam Winnall going the other way. Both deal are season-long loans.

Former Barnsley youth product Butterfield has a wealth of experience having made over 250 first team appearances for clubs including Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield. The 27-year-old joined Derby in 2015 for a fee of around £5M and has been a regular in the Rams squad since then.

Sam Winnall joined the Owls from Barnsley in the last transfer window but has failed to hold down a regular spot in the side with the likes of Hooper, Fletcher and Rhodes ahead of him in the pecking order. A recent training ground falling out with Fernando Forestieri also hasn’t helped matters. He played well when selected against QPR this season and scored in the 1-1 draw but then was substituted in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland and didn't feature in the following league game against Fulham where the Owls picked up 3 points. He was substituted during the 3-2 defeat at Bolton in the EFL Cup last week where the team improved when he was replaced by Nuhiu.
