Owls pocket Purse

Sheffield Wednesday have secured their first new signing of the close season by acquiring the services of experienced centre-back Darren Purse.

The former Cardiff player has been released by the Welsh club and will officially become on Owls player when he signs a two-year deal on July 1st.

Purse found himself out of the Cardiff side for much of 2009 but was recalled to the first eleven towards the end of the season as the side had started to leak goals. He did not feature in the 6-0 defeat to Preston which ultimately cost the club a play-off place.

The 32-year-old defender has a wealth of experience having played over 400 professional games and he will hopefully be able to pass what he has learnt over the years on to what in the main is a relatively young defensive unit at Hillsborough.
