Nuhiu influential for Kosovo

Sheffield Wednesday striker Atdhe Nuhiu had a major influence in a landmark victory for Kosovo during the latest round of international matches.

Making a substitute appearance in the 76th minute, the tall Owls forward came into the game on Monday with his nation trailing Latvia by 3 goals to 2. With less than 5 minutes to go Nuhiu nodded a cross down into the danger area that the visitors failed to clear, allowing Rashani to make it 3-3. Then, deep into stoppage time, Nuhiu struck a low shot off the foot off the post and Halimi gleefully fired in the rebound to make it 4-3.

The victory was Kosovo’s first official win on home soil having only been accepted as an official member by FIFA in 2016.

Nuhiu has been a bit-part player for the Owls so far this season and of late he has found himself out of the matchday squad with a wealth of talent available in Wednesday’s attacking ranks. His attributes do however offer qualities that Carlos Carvalhal’s other options don’t possess and he could still have a role to play as the season progresses.
