Owls undone at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday reserves followed up defeat at Macclesfield in their first outing with another loss, this time at home to Burton Albion.

The visitors took a 2-0 lead into half-time and although the Owls did get back into the game with the aid of an owl goal midway through the second half Burton held on to leave the Owls pointless from two games.

The defeat came despite the presence of a number of experienced players getting a run out for the Owls alongside some of the youngsters.
Striker Akpo Sodje played for over an hour, as did new midfield recruit Tommy Miller, with Richard Hinds, Frank Simek and Mark Beevers all completing 90 minutes.

Although it is good to see the likes of Sodje and Simek involved in a bid to step up their fitness the fringe players are hardly playing themselves into contention in terms of challenging for a regular first-team spot. The squad players failed to impress in the Carling Cup defeat at Port Vale and this performance is unlikely to have brought any of them into Brian Laws immediate thoughts.
