Owls Vs Sky Blues: Team news

Last updated : 17 October 2009 By C. Morris

After a week off for the international break Sheffield Wednesday will look to put their dismal display at Derby last time out behind them when they host Coventry City at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Wednesday have no new injury problems to concern them but utility man Richard Hinds may be kept out of contention by a niggling ongoing problem.

On loan striker Luke Varney was prevented from playing in the defeat at Derby by the terms of his loan agreement but looks set to come straight back into the side at the expense of Leon Clarke who missed a host of chances at Pride Park.

Any other changes could come in the back four with only Richard Wood doing himself justice in that area of late. Captain Darren Purse and right-back Lewis Buxton have been way short of their best of late and Mark Beevers and Frank Simek are waiting in the wings to replace them should Brian Laws choose to shuffle his pack.

The visitors main new injury loss concerns midfielder Sammy Clingan who will be out for over a month after breaking a metatarsal against Leicester City last time out.
The Sky Blues are also likely to be without David Bell and James McPake as they continue to step up their rehabilitation.

Former Barnsley and Doncaster wide man Michael McIndoe should be available having recently returned to full training and former Owls loan striker Leon Best is expected to play in attack having had a positive season so far.

Wednesday will be hoping for an upturn in fortunes against Coventry having lost both games against the Sky Blues last season.  The previous season both matches ended in draws and Wednesday last beat Coventry in back in April 2007, by two goals to one at Hillsborough.

Form wise Coventry have lost just once in their last six games and have won two, lost two and drawn one of their five away games in the Coca Cola Championship thus far.
Wednesday come into the game on a run of just one win in their last six matches but have only been beaten once in five home league games to date this season.

A home win would see the Owls climb above Coventry in the league table, the Sky Blues are currently in 11th place on 16 points, 3 points ahead of Wednesday.
