Owls-mad End of season ratings explained

Last updated : 16 May 2008 By C. Morris

It has been brought to my attention that many people believe I have been too kind in my judgements on certain players.

OK, so the scale is done on a sliding basis, theoretically ranging from 1 to 10 but when have you ever seen anyone get a score of 1 in any of the papers on a Sunday or Monday following a game.

For that matter, hardly anyone ever gets less than a 4 out of 10 and this only seems to happen when a player is sent off.

To clear matters up somewhat the scale below should be used as a key:

10 = outstanding throughout the season

9 = Very good

8 = good

7 = average, solid.

6 = under par

5 = disappointing

4 = poor

Anything below 4 would suggest that the player in question does not know his backside from his elbow.

I must admit that I have been a tad generous in many cases but I do try to see the best in people, however, as the scale shows and as you will see in future reviews, other than our defenders, very few players manage to get an average 7 or above.

Football is all about opinions and if nothing else, these reviews will at least stir debate.

Lets all hope that we will see more performances from our attacking players that will warrant 8's and above next season, up the Owls.
