Peacock clears up future - exclusive

The former Bristol City man scored Wednesday’s goal at Ipswich on Saturday and looked sharp when he came off the bench.

But last week, Wednesday had a bit turned down for MK Dons forward Clive Platt and some newspaper reports indicated that Peacock had been offerd as part of a swap deal.

Although Peacock admits there was interest from his old boss Danny Wilson at The Dons, he just wants to get back to basics and help Wednesday pick up their first win of the season.

He told Footymad: “Before the thing was in the paper, the gaffer took me to one side and told me that they had shown interest and there could be something in the papers.

“My old manager is there and he asked about me but speculation is always going to happen and you have just got to get on with your game and I didn’t see the article in the papers to be honest but the gaffer said he was going to change the team (at Ipswich).”

The Owls have been impotent in attack this season and have only hit the back of the net twice so far, and Peacock admits it has been a barren time for Wednesday’s strikers.

He added: “I haven’t been scoring goals and if you are not scoring goals then you may get dropped. I will always give my normal workrate but sometimes that’s not enough because you need to be scoring.

“I haven’t had any chances to score though this season although against
Ipswich I got one chance and took it. In regards to pressure, you don’t take it over a week – it comes over a season and it’s nice to get off the mark.”

On the game at Portman Road itself, Peacock added: “The first half was a bit hard, especially for David Graham up front on his own, we played sort of a 4-3-3 but it was more like a 4-5-1 and it’s hard up there alone.

“But in the second half when Proudy, Brunty and I were pushing on, we were chasing the game, we got a few more opportunities.

“The gaffer has said that he wants to try new things over the next few games because it’s important that we sort systems out now rather than later on in the season – if something’s not working now we need to change it with the players we have got and any other players who come in during the season.”
