The striker made his first start in three months in the 2-1 home shocker against Brentford and was one of the stars in a good first-half showing at least.

But Wednesday crumbled against ten men and went on to lose the game, and the former Bristol City star was left scratching his head to why The Owls did not win the game by a cricket score.

He told Footymad: “Again we have not seen the game out; I can’t put my finger on why not. There wasn’t much said after the game as there is not a lot you can say after that happens but this is something that has always been at the club, even before I came here in the summer.

“We have this habit of letting teams back in when we should be killing them, at this stadium we should be killing teams off too. We should be making Hillsborough a fortress, especially with our fans who are always right behind you until we throw it away which is understandable and you have to hold your hands up.

“When I first came here people told me that Hillsborough was Wednesday’s bogey ground and I laughed but I can sort of see why now.”

Peacock, honest in his evaluation, hopes the club can build from the first 45 minutes of the game but at this stage of the season, he knows that every point lost could cause problems come the end of the campaign.

He added: “We played really well in the first half but there was always the feeling about if we could see it out and the later the game went on, we shot ourselves in the foot and it’s absolutely gutting at this stage at the season with Christmas coming up we have some vital games. It seems to happen every time.

“We are devastated and it isn’t just pointing the finger at individuals – we are all in this as a team from me in attack to Lucas in goal but we have to get a rhythm going now so we can push up the league.”
