Peter flies from Owls nest

Sheffield Wednesday have parted company with left-back Peter Gilbert by mutual consent. The defender has not featured in the Owls squad recently and with his contract due to come to an end in the summer anyway the club and the player have taken this decision with a view to giving him more time to find a new club for the forthcoming season.

Gilbert was brought to Hillsborough by Paul Sturrock back in 2005 and signed a three-year deal with the Owls in the January 2006 transfer window following an initial loan spell.

The full-back made 17 appearances for Wednesday during the 2005/06 season but struggled with injury the next season, playing only a handful of times and spending a short spell on loan at Doncaster Rovers.

In the past two seasons he has played less than 20 times in the Coca-Cola Championship for the Owls and has never managed to establish himself in the first team under the management of Brian Laws.
