Rangers Vs Wednesday: Team news

Last updated : 13 April 2009 By C. Morris

Sheffield Wednesday travel to Loftus Road on Easter Monday looking to continue their recent positive away form following yet another blemish on their home record.

The Owls slumped to a third defeat in four home games against Derby at Hillsborough on Saturday but are unbeaten in four on the road.

Wednesday should welcome Tommy Spurr back to the team following his one-match ban but it is not yet clear who will make way in the back reshuffle. Frank Simek may be forced to return to the bench but Richard Hinds wasn't at his best on Saturday and so there are numerous options as to who will start and in which positions.

Up front Luke Varney is once again available after not being eligible to play against his parent club and Francis Jeffers could make way as he struggles to regain his goal scoring touch.

Akpo Sodje and Leon Clarke are also in contention after making positive impacts from the bench on Saturday and Etienne Esajas could start on the wing if Brian Laws chooses to adopt a positive approach.

QPR are set for their first home game of this spell under interim manager Gareth Ainsworth following the recent departure of Paulo Sousa and this could make for an interesting atmosphere at Loftus Road.

Rowan Vine played in the defeat at Burnley on Saturday but it remains to be seen if the striker is fit enough for two games in 48 hours having only just returned from a long spell on the sidelines nursing a broken leg.

Playmaker Akos Buzsaky, striker Patrick Agyemang and influential midfielder Martin Rowlands are all long term injury victims with front man Heidar Helguson also doubtful.

Defender Damion Stewart and tricky midfielder Lee Cook could both be in contention for recalls to the starting eleven.

Wednesday were slightly fortunate to beat QPR in front of Hillsborough's lowest league crowd of the season back in December but neither side has been able to gain the upper hand in recent encounters between the two teams at Loftus Road, the past three have ended in draws with one win each prior to this.

Rangers are unbeaten in their last four home games and currently occupy 10th position in the Coca Cola Championship three points above the Owls.
