Reserves relinquish early lead

Sheffield Wednesday reserves were denied their second win in succession on Tuesday evening at Shrewsbury as the home side netted an equaliser two minutes from time to earn a scarcely deserved point.

The Owls took the lead shortly before the twenty minute mark as Francis Jeffers bagged his second goal in as many second string outings, taking advantage of a route-one ball.
Jeffers has shown encouraging signs since his sending-off and subsequent transfer listing from the Carling Cup defeat at Port Vale but is still expected to be way down the pecking order.

Another striker more likely to be in first team contention is Akpo Sodje. The tall striker got into plenty of good positions but spurned a number of opportunities which ultimately cost the Owls two points and he still seems a long way short of his best.

At the back Frank Simek got another 90 minutes under his belt and could be in contention for a first team return given the defensive problems that the Owls have experienced of late.

Richard Hinds did not feature and he is not likely to be involved against Coventry at the weekend due to injury. Mark Beevers was not involved either as given the injury to Hinds, he is the only player likely to come into the first team at centre-back if Brian Laws chooses to leave out his out-of-form captain, Darren Purse.

The point leaves the Owls struggling towards the foot of the totesport.com reserves central division with 4 points from 4 games.
