Rumours link Premier League club with Owls defender

A number of Sheffield Wednesday fan sites are today reporting that Premier League new boys West Bromwich Albion are courting young Owls starlet Mark Beevers.

Last seasons Championship winners look set to lose Martin Albrechtsen to Derby County and may be in the market for a centre back with a fee of around £3M being touted.

Beevers was one of few plusses in a very disappointing campaign last season and has previously been said to have attracted the interest of the likes of Everton and even Chelsea.

If the rumours do have any substance then West Brom may be regarded as a better option for him with the chance to step up to the top flight combined with a more realistic opportunity for 1st team football than with the other clubs mentioned.

Owls boss Brian Laws is a friend of Baggies manager Tony Mowbray and the close working relationship helped Wednesday to get Baggies forward Bartosz Slusarski on loan last season. Any interest in Beevers however is likely to be frowned upon by Laws, especially with Coventry showing an interest in his central defensive partner Richard Wood.

It is well documented that the Owls are currently strapped for cash and if they were to accept any bid like this it would cast major doubts on the chances of a takeover of the club in the near future.
