Shaw fears the worst - exclusive

Wednesday are set to today release the list of players who Sturrock believes are surplus to requirements.

Striker Shaw along with Craig Armstrong, Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu, Richard Evans and Guy Branston are just a few of the names who are suspected to go on the transfer list.

But Sheffield lad Shaw, who has scored six in six for the reserves has had no indication from the new boss why he cannot even make the bench ahead of fledgling Andy Talbot.

He told Footymad: "I haven’t spoken to the manager yet about it but I am hoping he comes and talks to me about it soon. Hopefully I can continue scoring in the reserves because we were told that if you played well you would get that chance – I don’t seem to be getting that chance but one day it may come.

"It is frustrating that Andy has come in yet I am scoring goals but when a young lad gets picked above you, it can be hard to take. But all credit to Andy, he’s a bright young lad and done well to get where he is. "

Shaw also found himself out of favour somewhat with Chris Turner at the start of the season because of the signings of Steve MacLean and Lee Peacock - despite finishing the last campaign by scoring two in two and being one of Wednesday's best players.

He added: "Before Chris left he was playing me but then stopped picking me and I found myself in the reserves and didn’t give me a reason why and I didn’t get chance to ask him.

"But with Paul coming in I thought I had a fresh start as it is renowned that he likes hard workers and goalscorers as I always thought that that was my forte. Like I said though I haven’t spoken to him about it so I don’t know what’s going off."

It is a shame for Shaw though as in the summer, he was linked with a move to Darlington but Turner wanted to keep him, and now he acknowledges he will have to look elsewhere.

"I am thinking the worst at the moment," Shaw said. "I think the writing’s on the wall when you can’t get on to such a young bench even though you are scoring goals but football’s one of those strange games where your face either fits or it doesn’t and I wish it would as this is my club, my boyhood club but if that’s not the case I will move on, do well and hopefully come back here in a few years."
