The former Sunderland defender has missed the last six games but the form of the team has picked up in that spell as the club are unbeaten in six and have picked up 16 points from a possible 18.

Yesterday, he admitted it will be a struggle to get back into the team, but with Wednesday’s new-found attitude at the moment; it could be a different club altogether to the inconsistent one of four months ago.

He told Footymad: “The team have been doing very well while I have been out and look to have tightened up at the back, but we are scoring more and that seems to be the main difference. We are getting lots of goals from all areas of the field and we are full of confidence of getting victories at the moment.

“We have more belief in ourselves compared to September and more confidence that we can win every game. We used to worry when we went 1-0 down but now we don’t as we always have the confidence to push on.”
