MacLean, signed from Rangers in the summer was excellent for Scunthorpe in a loan spell last season and now The Owls are the ones benefiting from his class in front of goal.
And with Scottish international football going through somewhat of a revolution recently, new manager Walter Smith may be wanting to bring in a few new fresh faces - although playing in league one means the 22-year-old could go unnoticed.
MacLean told Footymad: "To be honest I haven’t really thought about playing for Scotland because I am solely concentrated on playing for Wednesday at the moment and if anything happens after that then it’s fantastic.
"I do think though that the higher the league you play in, you tend to get noticed more and it’s sometimes hard in league one but that comes with the territory really."
MacLean's 18 strikes have been instrumental for Wednesday this campaign and there's no doubt that he will pass the 20-goal mark before the season's end - but first all eyes are on Blackpool.
He continued: "Blackpool will be coming here scrapping for their lives and they will want at least a point out of Saturday’s trip, if not three. It will be a very hard game but hopefully we come out on top.
"The minute we start to think that automatic promotion is unachievable then we may as well give up. We have to keep winning and by doing that we will keep the dream alive but at the moment we are just focussing on staying in the play-offs."
Unfortunately, Wednesday have been hit with the news that the striker will be missing for the next three weeks with a fracture of the foot.
MacLean limped off against Doncaster at the weekend and now an opportunity will open up for James Quinn or Drew Talbot.
