Striker's fitness admission - exclusive

The striker has come back early from a thigh problem and admits to being rusty and thought he would have to spend more time on the treatment table following his tiring week.

Despite Peacock looking sharp in the first half against Brentford, on his second-half showing it was clear to see that he was finding it a little too much at times but he believes that he will get his real game back in the next few weeks.

He told Footymad: “In the reserve game against Hull on the Tuesday I picked up a dead leg in the first minute and then I picked up a knock in the first-team game the day after and all the bruising in my leg came out again and I got banged in the same place so it is just so frustrating after you are out for so long and get a hit right where it hurts the most. That will settle in the next few days though with us not having a game until Sunday.

“My fitness doesn’t feel that bad and my thigh is fine but mentally and technically I do feel really rusty at the moment and I don’t feel up to par at all but that will come with games.

“I have only trained a couple of times since returning, I get a knock in my first game back and I am back three weeks earlier than what I should have been and realistically I would have been hoping to just break onto the bench around Christmas and the new year period.

“In one way it is great me coming back so soon as I am involved with the team again but I am not sharp enough yet and I hold my hands up for that.”

Even Peacock welcomes the idea to bring in an extra striker to provide cover – especially with Adam Proudlock and Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu ruled out for the foreseeable future.

He added: “The boss is on about bringing another striker in which we do need. I have been out, Proudlock’s out, Ndumbu’s out so we need to replace those players with someone with experience and that is the main thing we are lacking at the moment, experience.”
