Turner - we lacked leaders

Chris Marsden missed the clash because of family problems and Lee Bullen was made the skipper in his absence.

Graeme Lee is out injured while Guy Branston was suspended but apart from Bullen, David Lucas and Lee Peacock, the rest of the team lacked a little experience it could be argued.

Chris Brunt’s left-footed drive put The Owls ahead before Jermaine Johnson capitalized on an error of judgment by the impressive Patrick Collins to level the scores.

But despite the result, Turner believes that some of his youngsters, like Richard Wood and Glenn Whelan were impressive when put under pressure.

He told the official site: “When you’ve got three key players missing, and have four players under the age of 20 in McMahon, Whelan, Collins and Wood, it’s that bit of self-belief that you are missing.

“You need your leaders to come to the forefront and that’s what we missed. But we’ve played three games in six days and some of those boys have done extremely well.”
