Turner gets defiant over Scott

Taylor is on the transfer list at Blackpool and wants to move away from Bloomfield Road to have better access to his ill father, who lives in London.

Wednesday have had numerous offers turned down and despite last season's league-leading scorer saying he wants a move to Hillsborough, Turner believes that both The Tangerines and Taylor are digging in their heels.

"At the moment we're in limbo with Scott Taylor," Turner told the PA.

"We've had offers turned down and even though he's said he wants to come, we've been on with him for six weeks and I need to plan for next season."

Meanwhile, former Owls captain Dean Smith has signed a twelve-month deal with league one rivals Port Vale.

Smith, who helped to terrorise Wednesday's defence last season with his snail-like pace, has been on trial at Vale Park and boss Martin Foyle was somehow impressed by the 33-year-old's abilities.

Foyle believes that the ex-Leyton Orient player will be a vital member of the squad and bring his young team some much-needed experience.

Smith was signed by Chris Turner from Orient in 2002 and despite performing well in the old first division, he disappointed last term when given the Owls captaincy.

He becomes the fourth released Owls player to get sorted out with a new club following Leigh Bromby and Alan Quinn signing with cross-city neighbours United and Mark Robins sealing a deal with Burton Albion.
