Under performing Owls undone at home

Sheffield Wednesday lost for the 3rd time at home this season as Ipswich Town took all 3 points thanks to a late winning goal.

The Owls may not have deserved to lose the game but were well below their best and failed to break down a well organised Ipswich team.

Wednesday started brightly enough but seemed to lose their way as the first half progressed and they fell behind just after the half-hour mark. Jack Hunt lost possession midway inside his own half and Ipswich midfielder Lawrence advanced before drilling a low shot into the bottom corner of the goal from the edge of the area.

The goal appeared to wake the home side from their slumber and within 5 minutes they were level. Neat interplay between Jones and Lee ended with a low strike from Jones which the keeper could only parry into the path of Hooper who made no mistake from close range.

A positional change at the start of the 2nd half saw Bannan move into a more central position with Lee going out wide and the home side almost had the lead within the first minute of the 2nd half. Hooper advanced into the area but saw his shot well saved and Lee could only poke the rebound wide on the stretch.

Fletcher had a half-chance with a header in front of the Kop but the cross was just to high for him to steer his effort on target. Wednesday threw on Forestieri, followed by Wallace and then Abdi in a bid to win the game but it was the visitors who stole the points.

With 3 minutes to go Wednesday conceded a cheap free-kick in a dangerous position. Berra met the cross with a header that was going well off target but it rather fortunately picked out Chambers whose header found the back of the net.

The Owls head into the international break in 10th place, 2 points behind 6th placed Leeds United.
