Weaver - nothing to fear - exclusive

The blue and the red sides of Sheffield clash for the first time in three years on Saturday at Bramall Lane in what surely will be a titanic battle between two teams who are enjoying totally different seasons.

United, with a home record as good as any in the country, have been on top of the league for the majority of the season but Neil Warnock's men currently lay in second, while Wednesday are struggling just above the relegation zone.

But Weaver, who has played for City against United in the Manchester derby believes that there is all to play for.

He told Footymad: "When I have played in those games, the atmosphere is absolutely electric and the first time we came up against Manchester United at City was just after we had won two promotions on the trot – United had won the Champions League and the Premiership in the three seasons prior to that – and we ended up only losing 1-0 after David Beckham scored in the first minute.

"But we had our chances - everyone thought it was going to be five or six for United and that wasn’t the case so hopefully we can prove people wrong by going to the Lane and getting at least a point."

Weaver, a former season ticket holder at Hillsborough has his own personal memories of the clash while watching from the terraces.

"I went to a few derbies as a kid, home and away," he said. "We won a few but when I used to go, United used to have the better of it but hopefully we can go there and do something. It’s going to be tough when you look at the league table but the form book goes out of the window when you play in a derby."
