Wednesday clinch 8th summer signing

Sheffield Wednesday have made yet another positive move today by capturing experienced centre-forward Clinton Morrison on a two-year deal following his release from Coventry City.

Speculation was rife over the weekend that the Londoner was in advanced talks at Hillsborough but many fans remained sceptical believing that his wage demands or interest from Championship clubs would prevent him joining the Owls.

Critics state that Morrison can be arrogant and this could cause friction within the team but what can’t be disputed is his goal scoring record having notched at an average of better than a goal every three games during his career as a whole to date, taking in two spells at Crystal Palace and stints at Birmingham and Coventry.

Morrison netted eleven times for the Sky Blues in the Championship last season and has the ability to be one of the most feared strikers in League One in the forthcoming season.

The 31-year-old striker actually made his league debut against the Owls back in 1998. He scored an injury time winner at Selhurst Park as Palace beat Wednesday 1-0 on the final day of the season, a result that was reputed to have cost Ron Atkinson his position as the Owls manager.

Clinton has scored none times for the Republic of Ireland and joins a strong forward line at Hillsborough that currently includes fellow new signings Neil Mellor and Paul Heffernan as well as Marcus Tudgay.
