Blues Vs Owls: Team news & preview

Sheffield Wednesday take on Birmingham City tonight as they look to begin to make amends for the disappointing display in the steel city derby on Sunday.

The Owls could welcome midfielders Sam Hutchinson and Almen Abdi back into the squad but neither are expected to start after prolonged injury lay-offs. Glenn Loovens, Fernando Forestieri and George Boyd remain unavailable.

Young Portuguese striker Lucas Joao will hope for a rare start after being one of the few to impress as a second half substitute on Sunday.

Birmingham, currently under the caretaker leadership of Lee Carsley following the dismissal of Harry Redknapp, will be without a few key players.

Record signing Jota, former Sheffield United striker Che Adams and Jason Lowe have all been struggling with hamstring injuries. Goalkeeper David Stockdale also looks set to miss out due to a wrist injury.

Wednesday’s defeat in Sunday’s derby was their first league loss since the opening day. They have won 1, lost 1 and drawn 2 on the road so far.

Carsley led Birmingham to a 1-1 draw at Derby in his first match in charge of this spell on Saturday. They have won 1, lost 2 and drawn 1 at home so far.

The Owls beat Birmingham at Hillsborough last season but lost 2-1 at St Andrews when Lukas Jutkiewicz, the Blues goalscorer at the weekend, scored a last-minute winner last September.
