Wednesday Vs Rangers: Team news

Sheffield Wednesday host Queens Park Rangers at Hillsborough on Tuesday evening on the back of a run of three games without defeat and with two home games in succession they will be looking to move up from mid-table in the Coca Cola Championship.

Wednesday came back well after poor first-halves against both Norwich and Southampton and they will be hoping to come out of the blocks much quicker against a Rangers side buoyed by their win over table topping Wolves at the weekend.

Owls manager Brian Laws has highlighted consistency as a key factor in the run that has yielded 7 points from a possible 9 and he could name an unchanged line up for this fixture.

There are no new major injury worries though it will be a stern test of Frank Simek's fitness if he is to play from the start against Rangers and then Bristol City on Saturday. Three games in little over a week for a player that has spent almost a year on the sidelines may be too much to ask and if he is given a rest in this one then Tommy Spurr is likely to return at left-back with Lewis Buxton switching to the right.

The versatile Steve Watson could be fit to return but is unlikely to be selected ahead of McAllister or O' Connor in the middle of the park.

In-form Marcus Tudgay is expected to continue to play out wide but on loan Bartosz Slusarski could be pushing for a start with Francis Jeffers struggling to find his goal scoring touch.

The main doubt for QPR is striker Dexter Blackstock. Rangers' top scorer limped off against Wolves and will face a late fitness test.

Defender Fitz Hall is available again after completing a suspension as is former Sheffield United midfielder Mikele Leigertwood however they may have to settle for a place on the bench following the fine performance of the team on Saturday.

QPR have been in good form at Loftus Road but have found the going tough on their travels recently having failed to score in their past 7 away league matches, losing 4 and picking up 3 points from 3 0-0 draws.

Hillsborough has not been a happy hunting ground for Rangers either recently. They have been beaten on their last two visits picking up just 4 points in five games at S6, although they did celebrate promotion to the Championship here with a 3-1 win on the final day of the 2003/04 season.
