Wednesday Vs West Brom: Team news and preview

Having hosted Leeds on Friday evening, Sheffield Wednesday face another tough test this evening when high-flying West Brom travel to Hillsborough.

The Owls will be without influential midfielder Barry Bannan as the Scot picked up his 5th booking of the season against Leeds and will serve a 1-match suspension. On loan Spurs midfielder Josh Onomah is an option to fill in for Bannan. Forward Marco Matias will also miss the game due to a hamstring injury but defender Daniel Pudil could return to the squad having suffered a blow to his nose in the recent victory at Aston Villa. Young full-back Ash Baker is a doubt having needed to be substituted due to a leg injury on Friday evening.

For the visitors, former Sheffield United winger Matt Phillips will be assessed ahead of the game having missed the weekend win at Preston. Striker Dwight Gayle picked up a knock in that game but is expected to be fit to face the Owls and new signing Bakary Sako could also be included in Darren Moore's squad.

Wednesday are unbeaten in 5 home league games so far this season but have only won 2 of those, West Brom have taken 8 points from their 5 away matches to date. The 2 sides haven't faced each other since the 2009/10 season when the Owls lost home and away to the Baggies and West Brom have won on 3 of their last 5 visits to Hillsborough.
