Wickham just what Wednesday need

Deadline day deal crucial

Having been linked with a move for Connor Wikham throughout the January transfer window, Sheffield Wednesday finally clinched a deal for the striker on deadline day.

The move see Wickham move to Hillsborough on a loan deal from Crystal Palace until the end of the season and The Owls 0-0 draw with Millwall on Saturday highlighted just why they need him.

Wednesday have struggled going forward since Steven Fletcher picked up an injury that has ruled him out until around April and it was another afternoon of toil with little reward for the home faithful at Hillsborough. Nuhiu doesn't have the mobility or goal threat to lead the line week in week out and both Jordan Rhodes and Sam Winnall have struggled to find any consistent form for some time.

Wickham offers a physical presence, mobility and is a goal scorer and with Fernando Forestieri returning to the fold this weekend his trickery and creativity could offer a productive partnership.

Wickham, who had two successful loan spells with Wednesday in 2012-13 and 2013-14, could make his Owls debut for the 3rd time in the South Yorkshire derby at Barnsley next weekend.
