Wood looks forward - exclusive

Steve MacLean has been ruled out for the season, David Lucas will be out for at least a month while Paul Sturrock is still worried over the fitness of Graeme Lee.

Lee was taken off against Blackpool at the weekend with an abductor problem and either Alex Bruce, Patrick Collins or perhaps even Steve Adams will deputise for the former Hartlepool man should he fail a fitness test.

Sturrock also has a massive decision to make in attack - he has to choose between the in-form Drew Talbot or the experience of James Quinn to partner Lee Peacock.

One easy decision though will be to bring in goalkeeper Chris Adamson in for his full debut while putting Rob Poulter onto the bench for cover.

The Owls boss usually keeps a winning side but with all the injury problems encountered in the last few weeks, he is still looking to the loan market to bolster the side.

Meanwhile Wood told Footymad: "It will be a good test for us but we know what we have to do down there – we just have to carry on doing our job by picking up three points and keeping the pressure on the top two."

The last time the two clubs met was way back in August when United went away from Hillsborough with a 3-0 victory but the 19-year-old defender does not think history will repeat itself.

He added: "We have changed so much since the opening day of the season. The lads at the start of the season were just put together really, there were lots of players new to the club but you can see now that we have lots of character, team spirit and we’re also scoring goals at the moment."
