Yankee Doodle dandy?

Sheffield Wednesday have today been rumoured to be interesting an American consortium with regards to a potential takeover of the club.

The People newspaper has today reported that the board of the club is ready to consider this prospective new offer having apparently lost faith with the long time front-runner in the takeover saga.
Recent rumours have linked former American international and Owls favourite John Harkes to be fronting a bid from the States but as yet there has been nothing to suggest that this is the case.

A consortium fronted by Lancashire businessman Geoff Sheard has been in discussions with Owls shareholders for around nine months and supporters have become increasingly sceptical about the prospects of this takeover as the process has dragged on.

The club and major shareholders group Wednesdayite recently stated that there were three other parties interested in the club and it now seems that the Sheard bid could have some real competition.

If this is true then hopefully it will force their hand somewhat and we may get some more definitive progress one way or another.
