Young defender joins Owls from Champions

Sheffield Wednesday clinched the 1-month loan-signing of Manchester City full-back Jeremy Helan on Thursday, meaning he will be available to make his debut in Saturday’s home match against in form Leicester City.

Helan has featured once for the Premier League champions this season, playing in their league cup defeat against Aston Villa. The 20-year-old left-back spent a spell on loan at Shrewsbury in October/November where he played 4 games and the Frenchman has been a regular in the City development team.

Left-back has been something of a problem position for Wednesday so far this season. Reda Johnson is 1st choice in that position and started the season in exciting fashion, scoring a couple of important goals as the Owls got off to a good start. The Owls have struggled badly since the first month of the season and Reda’s prolonged lay off with a foot injury has not helped matters. Daniel Jones has been the preferred choice in Johnson’s absence but his form has been indifferent. Joe Mattock was signed in the summer but has been unable to hold down a place in the team after an unimpressive start to his Owls career when filling in at right-back.
