Youngster in to shackle Saints

17-year-old Beevers has been raved about by Sean McAuley and because Brian Laws is without Richard Wood and Graham Coughlan and John Hills – the youngster will be thrown in at the deep end against the impressive firepower of The Saints.

There is a slight chance that John Hills could be fit, which will enable Tommy Spurr to claim his favoured central-defensive position alongside Lee Bullen.

Leon Clarke is pushing for his first start for the club after his signing from Wolves although new winger Jermaine Johnson is suspended after being sent off on his last game for his former club, Bradford City.

Laws says that Southampton are the best team to come up against Wednesday this season and every fan remembers that 3-3 draw in December for goalkeeper Mark Crossley to steal the headlines with an injury-time leveller.
